Eligibility, Who Qualifies?
You qualify for Czech citizenship by descent if you are a direct biological descendant of an ancestor who meets ALL of the following criteria:
✓ Parent, Grandparent, or Great-Grandparent (three generations accepted)
✓ Was a Czechoslovak citizen (born in the territory of present-day Czech Republic before 1993), OR was a Czech citizen (1993-present)
✓ Did NOT voluntarily renounce Czechoslovak or Czech citizenship
- Spouses are NOT eligible through this pathway
- Ancestor must not have voluntarily given up citizenship (involuntary loss due to forced emigration, persecution, etc. does NOT disqualify you)
- Subject of Austria-Hungary who became Czechoslovak citizen in 1918
- Czechoslovak citizen during First Republic (1918-1938)
- Citizen who fled Nazi occupation or communism (1938-1989)
- Citizen of Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (1948-1989)
- Czech citizen after Velvet Revolution (1989) or Czech-Slovak split (1993)
Communist-Era Emigrants: Many who fled during communist period (1948-1989) did not voluntarily renounce citizenship, they were often stripped of citizenship or forced to flee. These cases often qualify.

- Parent's birth certificate and marriage certificate
- Grandparent's birth certificate (and great-grandparent's if applicable)
- Ancestor's Czech/Czechoslovak citizenship documents: Birth certificate showing birth in Czech lands Old Czechoslovak/Czech passport or ID Military service records Other archival documents proving citizenship

Step 6: Application Submission (Month 6)
Submit to Czech Ministry of Interior through Czech embassy/consulate or directly in Prague. Our Czech attorneys represent you throughout.
Step 7: Government Processing (Months 7-14)
Czech authorities review application and conduct verification. Official processing time: 8 months . Interview may be required (conducted at Czech embassy).
Step 8: Citizenship Certificate & Passport (Month 14-15)
Upon approval, receive Czech citizenship certificate. Apply for Czech passport (10-year validity) and national ID card.
